City Launches Jakarta Digital Library

Jakarta Governor, Basuki T. Purnama (Ahok), launched iJakarta, a social media digital library. The launching was held together with the Hari Anak Jakarta Membaca (Hanjaba) event, Tuesday (10/13).

"I appreciate iJakarta and it is hoped more Jakartans will read much," he said.

i-Jakarta is the first digital library application in Indonesia which is equipped with ebook reader. The application is developed under Regional Library and Archive Board (BPAD) and PT Woolu Aksara Maya cooperation. Later on, the application will integrate with Jakarta Smart City.

All Flats to Be Equipped With Library

"The application can be used to promote qualified book from any publishers. It's saving your budget much," he added.

User can get the application in Android, iOS, and Windows base phone. It can be used both online or offline. The digital book is free to be borrowed.

Tinia Budiati, Jakarta Head BPAD, stated there are thousands of book inside the application starting from school, college, general knowledge, biography, history, and other popular books.

"You can access the book for free," she stated.

The iJakarta launching was also supported by Gramedia, Pustaka Utama, Erlangga, Agro Media Group, Mizan, Elex Media Komputindo, Gramedia Widiasarana Indonesia, Bhuana Ilmu Populer, Kepustakaan Populer Gramedia, Penerbit Kanisius, UGM Press, UNS Press, and UB Press.

"The book collection will be added on to ease the user accessing the book," she disclosed.
